Learning to Ride a Bike and Christianity
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”
Matthew 18: 21-22 (NIV)
One morning I woke up at the age of four or five and had dreamt that I could ride a two wheeled bicycle. That morning, which must have been a Saturday because my dad was home, I asked him to remove my training wheels from my bike, and announced I could now ride a two wheeler. I could just imagine whipping around on my bike, popping wheelies and I could feel the wind in my hair riding a two wheeler just like the big boys. Dad was spectacle but out to garage we went, we brought out my bike and dad’s tool box. Off came the training wheels of the bike and the bike went quickly back together.
Dad said he would help me since it was my first time, I really didn’t think I would need him but there he was anyway holding on running alongside my bike, I said okay let go and he did the falling didn’t hurt but the sudden landing did. We tried several times the next two days but had the same results, several scrapes, lumps, blood and crying later dad asked, “should I put the training wheels back on” and I said, “no”, I was going to learn. Well days later an older boy down the block had me riding my two wheeler with out falling down and even taught me to stop which was another lesson all together.
Becoming a Christian has been the same way at times. I have made a decision to follow Jesus and be a disciple and wouldn’t you know it I have fallen down. I have made mistakes, used a word or two better left for long shore men, and well you know the rest. So I ask God to grab back on and run along side of me again. You know the best part, God never lets go, he is always there running alongside, steering and pedaling or just going along for the ride until I need further assistance. With God the falls are still okay but the landings still smart a bit, but He is right there to lift me up and clean me off. I just have to keep trying and doing my best listening for our Father’s direction which keeps me balanced and moving along the right path. Today ask God to grab on, believe me he will take you for the ride of your life.
God Bless
