Several years ago, while vacationing in the Smoky Mountains, I and my family decided to do some shopping in one of the vacation areas. We all agreed to look around and then meet back at a certain time. When we all gathered back, my wife ask what , if anything was bought. They all had bought some very interested souvenirs. But, when it came my turn, I simply replied that I had bought some stones. My wife then inquired, as to why I bought rocks. Well, they were all so smoothly cut and had such a shine, I could not help but get them.
I'm reminded of another occasion where "five small stones: were important. In fact, the stones helped changed the world.
“I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. 40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground.
50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling) and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. ( Excerpts from 1 Samuel 17 )
I like to think of these five stones being labeled: forgiveness, faithfulness ,follower, fruitful and forever.
FORGIVENESS
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.(Ephesians 1:7-10)
FAITHFULNESS
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. (Psalm 86:15)
FOLLOWER
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. (1 Peter 2:21-21)
FRUITFUL
That you might walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; ( Colossians 1:10)
FOREVER
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.( Psalm 118:1)
As a child of God, what is in your gospel pouch? There are numerous scriptures associated with these five mentioned stones. And, I'm sure you can associated any number of these scriptures as did I.
The most important thing to remember is that "faith" is the key. For you see, we all trust "faith" in our day-to-day material living, as well as our spiritual living.
Without faith David would not have turned the tide of history.
But without faith, no one can please God, for whoever is brought near to God must believe that he exists and that he is the rewarder of those who seek him.(Hebrews 11:6)
Without faith, you would have never come to Christ and excepted God's free grace.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.(Ephesians 2:8-9)
Just stop and think about it. What is God's will for your life? Have you ask Him to reveal His Will for your life, in prayer?. I Thessalonians 5:23 says, He desires you to be "preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)" (The Amplified Bible
REMEMBER, THIS OLD GOSPEL CHORUS,
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame.
There’s a crown—and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ Name.
So, stuff your gospel pouch with the stones of God's Holy Word and live each day, to its fullest for Him .
Amen
