This is an acronym for the word "DREAM."
D = DELIGHT
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. God Himself should be our delight and pleasure, more than what we accomplish. We should be focused on Him, not only in times of great happenings in our lives, but also when nothing at all seems to be occurring.
It is easy to delight in the Lord when we come closer to our God-ordained dream. What, however, is our attitude if our dream is on hold or God stops it dead in its tracks, or redirects the path? Do we still find our delight in Him?
R = REACH OUT AND RUN
To reach out and run means to "ask, seek, and knock." If one is passionate about a God given dream, he or she will continue to move forward, no matter what. You will persistently look for ways to utilize your unique giftedness, vision, and calling, to invest in the lives of people.
If a door doesn't open you will move to the next, but when one opens you will run through it with every ounce of energy you have, because you will know that God opened it. You didn't have to bang on it. You simply knocked and it opened.
E = EDGE OUT ALL DISTRACTIONS
This is probably the most difficult of all. Satan wants to get us off course. We must attend to family issues. Then, there are those unwanted "naysayers" who put you down or laugh at you, and make crude retorts like, "YOU, are going to do THAT." So many things in life can get in the way of our journey toward our dream.
We must make the time to pursue our passion and vision. It is like driving a vehicle. You must be focused on the task at hand and not allow all of the things going on around you to become a distraction so that you take your eyes off the road ahead.
A = ATTITUDE
Have you heard the saying, "Attitude determines your altitude?" It's really true. A great attitude helps push you forward. It means the difference between having a good and bad day. Attitude is like a piece of paper. You can crumple it up and throw it away. You can draw a beautiful picture on it and brighten someone's day, or you can write down an idea that could change the world. Your attitude is totally up to you. Scripture tells us to make the most of every opportunity.
M = MAKE IT HAPPEN
Decide what we have control over and make it happen. Take little steps day by day. Be committed to doing whatever is necessary. We are told in Proverbs 16:9 that "the mind of a person plans the way but the Lord directs the steps."
If certain things don't seem to come together, or are totally out of your control, move ahead any way you can inspite of them.
When you are motivated by a God given dream or vision for your life, you will not be content with just doing nothing.
So, follow your dream and see what God does. I did, and He made it possible for me to become a published writer and to have a speaking ministry, both of which were life goals.
