If you’re a song, you have a songwriter.
If you’re a movie, you have a director/scriptwriter.
If you’re a painting, you have a painter.
If you’re a photograph, you have a photographer.
If you’re a story, you have an author.

On a day to day basis, we make small and big decisions that determine the trajectory of our lives. These decisions and their consequences weave a set of events that tells the stories of our lives. The crucial question is, “Who’s writing your story?” Is it you? Or have you relinquished this right to others or to God? Your spouse maybe, your family, your children, your parents, your mum, your boss, the list of possibilities can be endless. Is someone else writing your story and your simply living their version?

The decisions we make are the expressions of our motives and aspirations. Whenever we forego the right to write our story, our decisions become the expression of our author’s motives and aspirations. In knowing what their motives and aspirations are, we’ll know the trajectory of our lives. We’ll have a better idea of the challenges we may face and the successes we may achieve.

Whomever writes your story, directs your life. Are you going left or right? Would you stand up today or continue what you’re used to? Would you do what’s right or what’s popular? You may be holding the stirring wheel, but he’s telling you where to go.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve used your right to write your story or if you’ve given it up to someone else. What matters is the skill and character of the person who is writing it. Is he a talented storyteller? Is he weaving a marvellous story? Is there a grand ending to your story? Is your story moving forward, going around in circles or going backward?

A skilful storyteller would have a purpose for every moment, for every character, for every motive, for every decision. In a talented storyteller’s hands, every tragedy is a set up for a grander beauty, every tear is an element of an ocean of joy, every disappointment is a building block for success.

There are those who hire fortunetellers to tell them what the future holds. It’s human nature to be curious what will happen next. Here’s the deal: Your author knows your story. If not in it’s entirety, at least in where’s it’s going. So get to know him. If he is yourself, know yourself. If he is God, know Him. If he is your spouse/family/parents/etc., know them. Your future lies with him.
