Poetry
Pain has returned to my body
I don’t praise the pain
I praise you through it
Today I pray that you take it away
It cripples me so
But if it remains give me grace
You said that your grace is sufficient
Let your sufficiency live in this pain
Give me tolerance to bear
Not be a burden to others
Grit my teeth at its worst
Enjoy the waves of relief when they come
Pain hurts
I don’t like it
But help me praise you in it
Pain gets our attention
Reminds us of our limitations
Our ignorance about good health
An Earthly house that will fall
While knowing your grace
Help me show mercy
Pain brings me to my knees
Humbles me further
Forces me to look at me
Makes me see what I don’t want to see
Decisions made
Tears wept
Promises unkept
The road taken
Grace for my soul
Mercy from my father
In the end it is you
HE who has been from the beginning of me
Formed me in my mother’s womb
HE who knows ALL my weaknesses
Those that others will never see
Some that I don’t want to see
I thank you for the pain
Not that I want to hurt
Not that I want more
I praise you that you do not change
Please bring out the best in me
