Soar Like An Eagle!

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

A few days ago, my five year old decided to give me a helpful tip (out of the blue). She said, “When you are really high up in the air, don't look down or you'll only get scared. You always need to look up.” I smiled to myself, wondering how she had just pulled this fact out of the air, but then I let what she had just told me sink in.

You see, in today's verse we are told that when we wait on the Lord - (which can mean to expectantly hope in God or the active word to wait (like a server in a restaurant) either way, you're busy doing His work and expectant on Him, not on your circumstances) – you will mount up with wings like eagles. What do eagles do? They soar. They soar so high in the sky. They're not busy flapping their wings trying to stay afloat like other smaller birds do, but they soar on the wind. Likewise, when we concentrate on serving the Lord, we can soar like the eagle. We are way above the things that can get us down. We are indeed lifted high, when we concentrate on Jesus. Jesus is what keeps us a float, and the problems of this life seem so small when we're waiting upon the Lord.

But when my five year old decided to educate me on what to do when I'm at a height, I thought – how true! How many times has your faith been on God and then suddenly, you receive a bill that you've got no earthly way of paying, which you worry about and then 'bang', you come down to earth. Or you receive bad news about your health and you panic - 'bang', you're brought straight back to earth.

God wants us to soar with eagles wings, keeping our eyes upon Him. When we look down, we are taking our eyes off of Him and we get scared. But when we receive that bad news, or fall into life's problems, we need to keep our eyes on Him, bringing that problem up to Him. He's so much bigger than it. In Isaiah 43:2, He reassures us that “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.”

There are many examples of people in the Bible who chose to wait on the Lord and soar with eagle's wings. I wonder if we would even talk about the prophet Daniel today, if he had of let his eyes go down to his problems. When he stepped into the lion's den, he kept his eyes lifted upward, knowing that God was bigger than the lions before Him.

So as you begin this new journey, doing God's will for your life, keep waiting on Him. Soar with wings like eagles and God will restore your strength so that you will be able to soar over the things that come your way that could otherwise get you down.

Prayer:
Thank you, Lord, that You have called me and ordained me. I thank you that you have such a good plan for my life and that as I wait on you, I can soar on wings like eagles. I will run in Your will for my life and not be weary, I can walk with You and not be faint. Help me always to remember to keep my eyes up and not down. In Jesus name, Amen.
