God Brings a New Thing

Having Hope for Things to Change Any Day


We tend to have this habit of expecting things to continue the way they have been. If we have been struggling financially, we see ourselves continuing to struggle financially as we look into our upcoming days. If we have been waiting for God to create any change in our lives or in the life of a loved one, it can be all too easy to imagine the silence continuing. Perhaps we can grasp the idea that "one day" things will change. But perhaps we also need to be open to the fact that any day they can.

God has had me wait for many things in my life that I have felt called to do. And there are still things I feel are meant for me, that I don't have present at the moment. Is it easy to feel like the waiting will only continue? Of course. When I was going through severe depression and anxiety many years ago, it also felt as though things would also never change. But did they? I am pleased to say they did....they really did.

The people in the Bible who God spoke to, never saw it coming. When Abraham was first addressed by God, he was simply going about his daily life and suddenly out of nowhere, God called him. And when God promised him a son, it took over 15 years for that son to be born. When David was approached by Samuel and identified as a king, he was merely a shepherd living a mundane existence. Then it wasn't until many years later that he actually became a king, and the promise was made manifest. And even when Joseph was in jail, God still planned to fulfill that dream he has given to him as a boy that he would be a leader among his people.

The above are just a few people that God called out of the silence when it didn't look like He would. They are just a few God promised about their future, before making sure to honor His words and their faith. While we may look at how unlikely something seems, while we may only be able to see the practical limitations, God sees beyond them. They don't intimidate Him. They don't limit Him. He is above all things. And He can change all things.

God's ability to intervene is not limited to "one day." While it may take time for Him to fulfill His promises to you, He also could surprise you any moment. Faith is knowing that God is powerful enough to break the monotony of the day to day. It is knowing that He is with us in this moment, and He is at essence a creator, who is zealous about calling new things into existence. You see, God feels for His people. He absolutely loves His plans for our lives. And He makes sure they take place, especially as we ask for them. It is His heart to bless and His passion to turn things around so that we all can say, "Wow, that was God."

God desires us to live with an expectancy and with a daily hope that miracles are near. We are meant to surrender to His timing. But we are also meant to share our heart requests and to know that He can always do something new. We need that hope to refresh our souls; and we can count on it.

At the start of this year I had a verse on my mind which I believe is describing God's approach toward the world right now...



"Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
(Isaiah 43:18)
