Poetry
Mother:
Oh Father, Why oh why? Why me?
What awful sin have I done to Thee?
My heart is heavy, my pain is great,
Yet my love for my child shall never abate
Holding him now and listening to him breathe
I cannot ignore my increasing need to grieve
Did I do some evil in my younger days?
Is this some kind of curse for which my child pays?
This dreaded thought I cannot take
That I could have caused this by some mistake
Forgive my sins and make whole my child
For he is so pure, innocent and mild
Moans, groans, squeaks and squeals are all I ever hear
Will he be mistreated by his peers? For this I have much fear
My child can’t speak as much as we try to teach him by and by
As hard as we work it always seems that he's out of reach, why oh why?
Is this how I must pay for my sins; am I for this somehow to blame?
That he may never bounce on my knee, return my smiles or call my name?
God:
Sweet Daughter of mine lay down your fears
Lift up your chin and dry your tears
This is not the work of the Evil one
Although at times you may feel undone
No sin have you done unto me
I made your child like this to be
This was done for one sole purpose
For my love and grace to rise to the surface
In due time, on this child two hands will lay
To touch and command the affliction away
On that day with my glory revealed
Your sweet child will be healed
I will free him from this pain, it will be a sign
A sign and a wonder, unmistakably divine
Until that day, my love and strength I give to thee
That you my daughter a mighty warrior be
{Note: this poem was written to counter the thoughts that parent’s have, believing that they are to blame for their child’s disability. Exodus 4:11 and John 9:2-7 state that God made them this way for the sole purpose for His glory to shine when they are healed by the laying on of anointed hands}
