Are You Truly Willing?

“I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” Isaiah 6: 8 (NKJV)

Isaiah is known as one of the great prophets in the bible. The book of Isaiah is quoted often in the New Testament. But did you know that he probably died being sawn in two by the wicked king Manasseh? Tradition says that he was put into a hollowed out tree trunk and then the trunk was sawn in two. And did you know that he prophesied mainly to family?

We often tell God that we are willing to do His work and go where He sends us. But are you ready to start where you are? Isaiah was excited to do the work of the Lord. When the Lord asked who He could send, you can almost see Isaiah jumping up - like a school child with his hand up, saying 'choose me, choose me'. But he was not being chosen for some special oversees mission, he was being called to his own family. Custom has it that Isaiah's father Amoz was the king's uncle, which would make Isaiah his cousin.

I don't know about you but I find that it's often a lot more difficult to go to family than it is with total strangers. Jesus said that a prophet is not accepted in his own country (Luke 4:24). People who you grow up with will often struggle to see you as a spiritual authority. They've seen your flaws and your weaknesses. It is very difficult to go to your own family, especially with prophetic words that speak about doom and destruction. But still, are you willing like Isaiah, to go to those who are around you?

Do not worry about trying to raise yourself up to do bigger and better things. God will honour the humble heart. He will raise you up and not let you be overlooked. But don't sit around waiting for God to raise you up. Are you willing right now to reach those around you for Christ? Let the love of God shine through you and let your relatives (no matter how difficult they may be), see you as a light for Christ. Isaiah was a prophet in difficult circumstances and died in a horrific way. But he was not concerned about his discomfort for he did not want to be overlooked when Christ came looking for him.

Prayer:
Lord help me to have a willing heart, no matter what it is you want me to do. Help me not to despise the small things but to be available for whatever task you have for me to do. Thank you that you honour a faithful servant. In Jesus name, Amen.
