Ramblings of an Old Man:
Where Is God?
The real question is…where did we leave Him? When did we last need Him, use Him, or even thought of Him? God doesn’t move, we do, we stray, and we distance ourselves by choice. A second question that is just as important is what is it that distracts our focus from Him? Is it our own needs and desires that we are more concerned with, or maybe that 24/7 career that seldom leaves our thoughts and attention?
Could it be family or friends that we just cannot say no to, that will continually impose on you because they know you are unable to let them down or disappoint them? Our boundaries are where we place them, and we must learn to make the right choices and to stand up for ourselves. Why are we so willing to serve man first before serving the One that created us? So many questions, but what are the answers, at least the ones we will want to accept or abide by?
So, I ask again, where is God? He is wherever we allow Him to be! Whatever importance we place Him in our life is where He will be. Wherever we “rank” Him or “list” Him in our menu of priorities in our life shows us and others the importance we place on a relationship with Him. Have we ever made the statement that we can’t do something on Sunday because we have to be in church?
No you don’t! You don’t "have" to be in church, but instead you should "want" to be there. There should be a desire, a thirst to be there in order to worship and fellowship with, not only God, but with like minded believers. If you can’t stand church, or being around those Christ-like people, then why would you want to go to Heaven, where you would be in their mist – for eternity?
David knew where God was, read the Psalms he wrote, how he poured his heart out to the God that reestablished his footing and steps in life. David as a boy was a man of God with such faith, he was enabled to slay a giant, and yet this same man later became a murderer and an adulterous. Yet, through one of God’s prophets, conviction was brought to David’s heart, and also through the loss of his young son, David was drawn back to the point where he knew he had left his God. Read Psalms 40: 1-2 and 42:1-2, and you will hear the joy in his heart and life because he had returned to the roots of his service and worship to the one that had reestablished his walk, to the point where his soul thirsted for the living God!
So, where did you leave God? Was it long ago, when trials and tribulations overwhelmed you, or maybe just recently, as things are going well for you, and you think it’s because of what you have done all by yourself! Do you know the way back? Maybe the quickest way to return is the short distance between your knees and the floor. Give Him a call, you know He will answer and listen. Look what He did for David, for David knew where to find Him!
