THE BOOK ABOUT JESUS
I am convinced that this holy book holds a common and consistent message from beginning to end. A message of redemption. A message of salvation. A message of a substitutionary sacrifice that would be given on behalf of our sins. It is a book about Jesus. Before the angels ever uttered His name to Mary, there was a plan put in place that a Savior would be born. When sin entered into this world there was a need for a Savior. The need for a Savior is universal. None are exempt from this need for a Savior!
Is there anybody here that can say "I need a Savior!"
I can't save myself! I can't climb up to heaven and save my own soul. I need a Savior!
Let us examine the initial need for a Savior found within the Word...
Genesis 3:14-15 (KJV)
And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Satan's deception and man's sin brought the need for something called redemption. But we see the answer was brought to the forefront. The seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent.
From this point, man would begin to look for this One who would bring them back into communion with our heavenly Father. The pages of God's Word would begin to paint a picture of a plan that was put into motion.
It's just a few verses later we get a glimpse of a plan...
Genesis 3:21 (KJV)
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
This verse is communicating a simple, yet profound principle found in God's Word. You can try, but you can never cover yourself. You covering yourself, will always fall short. Man can never cover his own sins. Man can never cover his own iniquities.
Man tries...but never succeeds in covering himself!
Furthermore, this verse clearly indicates the covering that God used was SKINS. It was not cloth, it was not fabric or foliage of some sort...it was skins. I know this has some PETA supporters upset. But, the precedent was established, to be covered there must be a death. An animal of some sort was sacrificed, so that man could be covered. There was a death, so that Adam and Eve could be covered. There was some blood shed, so that they could be covered.
I'm reminded of the old hymnal that poses this question "What can wash me white as snow?" "What can make me whole again?" NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS!
Hebrews 10:1-5 (KJV)
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. [3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. [4] For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. [5] Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

[41] And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. [42] And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. [43] And he straitly charged him, and uforthwith sent him away; [44] And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
