Poetry
On the night of Jesus’ birth,
When the Saviour came to earth,
Heaven’s angels sang their godly praise on high;
For the baby in the stall
Who had come to save us all
The first ever Christmas Carol filled the sky.
Some poor shepherds keeping watch,
Caring for their little flock
Were observers of this great angelic throng,
Bearing witness to the world
Of the birth of Christ the Lord
And the glory of the angel’s mighty song.
In great haste the shepherds came
To observe the news proclaimed,
Gazing long upon this little baby boy;
How they marvelled at the sight,
Glorious things they saw that night
Their hearts overflowed with wonderment and joy.
Holy song rang out the news
Born that night King of the Jews
Is the greatest Christmas Carol ever heard,
Promised peace on earth to men
Through this One who’d pay for sin—
In fulfilment of God’s sure prophetic Word.
Year by year let us rejoice
In our Saviour Jesus Christ
To Him glory, praise and honour all belong;
Join the chorus of the sky
“Glory be to God on high”
Be rejoicing with the great angelic throng.
