God promised to supply all our needs. So "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6, KJV).
What you want may not be good for you, so allow God to supply your needs. You may need a vehicle and your heart's desire is to have a Mercedes Benz or a Ferrari. God will supply your need for a vehicle but you may or may not receive what you want. So if you get a Mercedes Benz, give thanks. If you get a Nissan Micra, a Ford Escort or any other vehicle, you deem of less status, still give thanks. He may not have supplied your want but He has delivered because He provided your need for transportation.
The bank account is empty. You pray, “Lord, I’m trusting you to make a way for me.” While praying, you may have your own ideas how God will answer that prayer. Perhaps you were expecting an envelope with cash or a cheque [check] to drop through the letterbox. Maybe you were thinking of a loan from the bank or an overdraft limit, but God may decide to provide you with a promotion or if you are out of work He may provide you with a job. You won’t always see that your need has been met when it is the long-term result that God is looking at but if you remain thankful you will see the daily blessings.
The cupboards are empty. You pray, “Lord, I don’t know where the next meal is coming from but I am trusting you to supply my needs.” If the money isn't provided to buy the grocery but someone delivered a basket of food then your prayer was answered. God supplied your needs. For though you had no money to buy the food it is not the money that is your most urgent need, it is the food to eat.
Sometimes we confuse our wants with our needs and when we do not get what we want we get discouraged. God always deliver on His promise.
