Poetry
One night in Bethlehem, a star was bringing,
Three wise men, from the east travelling.
Shepherds tending their flock with awe and trembling,
Heard angels in the sky singing and praising.
So to welcome the newborn King they went.
Found Him in a manger, wrapped in torn garment.
Their hearts were filled with everlasting peace and joy,
As they looked upon the face of that baby boy.
Here they made the discovery,
Which changed the course of history.
This boy was no ordinary emperor,
But God’s own son and our intercessor.
He came only to seek and save.
That those who believe may not be dismayed.
He offered himself as a living sacrifice,
To change the hearts of men, that didn’t suffice!
He healed the sick and raised the dead.
His reward, a crown of thorns on his head!
Demons acknowledged Him as Son of God.
Worship Him, man’s foolishness could not afford!
So scribe and Pharisee handed Him over to be tried,
His Lordship, friend and foe denied.
Spat, jeered and nailed to a tree,
What a way to set a sinful race free!
Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.
Are the words that our Saviour says today too.
Are we careful in thought, word and deed?
Not to nail our Saviour again to the tree?
All life’s gain can be but loss,
When all acquired is worldly glitz and gloss!
Opening our hearts to the Lord of heaven and earth
Is but an opportunity of a second birth.
To be born again to worship Him in love and truth.
Not just to buy His blessings and our worries soothe.
But to know that His grace is sufficient for us,
So let’s never fret, fume or fuss.
As we celebrate the birth of the Saviour of the world,
Lets open our hearts today to Him and His word.
Whenever we feel lost or go astray,
Remember Jesus’ love will show the way.
