A Letter to the Homosexual and to the Church
By Rick L. King

Love covers a multitude of sin. The greatest thing is love. Love is what we all desire if we are going to be totally honest. We all desire to be loved and accepted. It is the greatest thing man can ever experience. We have all looked for love in many wrong places. We have settled for substitutes as they are the nearest things that we have found to fulfill that deep inner need to be loved. The Bible says that God is love. Yet, how many have really found this love in God? The problem is all the substitutes that we have called love are sin. Anything other than God’s love is a substitute for what we can really have.
Because God’s Word says that sin is of the devil, then when we sin the devil is always involved. The Bible says that we all sin and come short of God’s glory. Often I hear people say that we give the devil too much credit. In some ways this may be true. Yet one of the main reasons that we sin is because of a lack of knowledge. The lack of knowledge is based on the god of this world putting blinders on our eyes. If we never recognize the one that we actually are fighting, then how can we ever be set free?
The Bible says in Eph 6:12, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The battle over sin that we face is not against ourself. The battle is against an enemy that has a true purpose to kill, steal, and destroy. Unless we recognize this, then we are hindered in our quest to be set free. If we think many things that we do are just us, then we can’t separate the real root cause from self. When we learn to fight God’s ways with spiritual weapons of war, then we can win.
I have said all this as I am concerned that many people believe a lie of the devil and have been condemned by many because of their sin. First of all, except for the blaspheming of the Holy Ghost, there is not one sin worse than another sin. Jesus said that if we are under the law that if we are guilty of one then we are guilty of all. Sin is sin no matter what form it takes. Whether it is rebellion, murder, occult practices, homosexuality, judging, condemning, etc. The list goes on and on. In the church unfortunately people often seem to go after one sin or another. Let’s take homosexuality for instance. They preach against it and say how wrong that it is. The problem is that Jesus said in John 3:17, “ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved”. Jesus did not come to condemn the homosexual; He came to save them. When we stand in the pulpit and condemn people for their sin, we are no better than they. It is the devil that brings condemnation. God is love and forgiveness. God shows the way out; not puts guilt or condemnation on people. He came to save them; not condemn them.
I must apologize to the homosexual for the lack of compassion and love that has been given by the church for the most part. The church has been religious and tried to hammer the word over the people so much that it has driven them away from the church. Many feel why would we want to be like you? You condemn and judge. You have neither compassion nor love. You put the pressure on to make people change, yet they do not know how to change anymore than you know how to change sins in your life. Their sins are no worse than your sins of condemnation. Condemnation is of the devil also. Can you not see the difference? The church is not perfect. The church is made up of people that accepted Jesus as Savior but are still in a process of being changed. The church is like a spiritual hospital. There are many sick people in the church. Out of the lack of knowledge in the church, words come that are very hurtful to many. They think they are doing the will of God preaching damnation to you but God actually desires for them to be an example of Jesus. What did Jesus do with the woman at the well? He said that he who is without sin let him cast the first stone. The accusers went away as they all knew that they sinned. Jesus then said, neither do I condemn thee, go and sin no more. Jesus loved the person. Jesus had compassion on the person. Jesus delivers the person. He does not sit and condemn them as he offers grace and mercy. He wants the person to have fellowship with His Father. When we get all religious we push people away from God. We fail to remember that is was Jesus that saved us and delivered us. In our strength we are powerless. It takes the power of God to bring a heart change in people, not their own human ability and efforts. We must learn that Jesus loves all people, no matter what sin they are committing or have committed in the past. Jesus knew that mankind sinned. That is the purpose that he came. He came to forgive sin and cleanse from all unrighteousness. Until we can be like Jesus and become the person that others would like to be like, then all our religious works are just going to be burned up as they are fruitless. People need to feel loved. People need to feel like someone cares and has an answer. They need to see people that God has so changed and filled with His love so that they are drawn to the real. Unfortunately most homosexuals have not seen this example from the church. Jesus loves people into His kingdom; not condemns them into His kingdom. Instead of heaping condemnation, why not focus on doing things that will bring people into God’s presence instead. In God’s presence people change. Jesus is the deliverer, healer, and Savior.
Many know that there is a spirit behind so many sins. When a person commits a sin over and over, they give legal openings for demonic spirits to enter into a person. I have to admit that I have a real problem with many of the spirits. I do not want to be around them nor will I associate with them. I am very repulsed at those spirits. I can love the person, but I cannot love the spirit. Somehow we as a church must get beyond the effects of the spirit and be an example of God’s love so that we can share that God does have a better way. God’s love is pure and holy, not perverted. Yet to a person that has never experienced this love it is foreign to them. How can they desire or want something that they don’t even know that exists? Unless we can show people that this love exists then how can we expect people to want what they don’t even know about? Who wants to be like to so many religious, condemning bigots? Homosexuals are really looking for true love. They have accepted the lie and a substitute for what really can be as they need something. Unfortunately something is not always better than nothing, though nothing is tough to handle at times.
To the Homosexual:
God loves you. God has a plan for each of you. Jesus does not condemn you but offers you a better way. Sin does have pleasure for a season but afterwards will bring death. Life is not just about physical pleasures and gratification. The Bible says that it is the spirit that gives life. You are a spiritual being and don’t really know it. I am not asking you to ever try to please me, but to please God. He is what you are really looking for. He is the love that you really desire that is fulfilling in every way. Though you may never have tasted of the Lord and found that He is good, does not mean that He doesn’t exist. Because eternity is a very long time, then I want to encourage you to look past the religious people and look to Jesus. If you accept Him as Savior and Lord, He will change you into what He wants you to be. He will give you life and peace inside. I would just encourage you to become open to Him and allow him to do in you what he desires. He wants so much more for you than you want for yourself.
2 Timothy 3:
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
These are the times that we are in. People are loving pleasures more than they are loving God. The problem is that sin even though there is pleasure in much of them, will kill you in the end. Jesus wants to give you eternal life. If you can just get a taste or a glimpse of His love for you then what I am attempting to tell you would make more sense to you. Please forgive the church’s ignorance and seek the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you have anything to lose if what I am saying to you is not true? We must make a choice to go to heaven or hell. We are not automatically sent to either place. Jesus offers you Heaven if you will just come to him and allow Him the opportunity to show you who He is and His love for you.
Maybe pray something like this?
Jesus, I don’t know if you are real. I don’t know if there is love beyond what I have known, but if there is could you please cause me to be aware of it? In my heart, I did not set out to sin or displease you so please forgive me of anything that I have done in my life that you would consider to be sin. I willingly forgive those that have sinned against me and hurt me with their empty words. I ask you to reveal yourself to me, save me, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I can’t fix me so I give you permission to come into my heart and change whatever you want to change that I may know you, follow you, and live with you in Heaven for eternity when I leave this earth. I accept you now as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
The Holy Spirit once told me that it was not my job to fix people. I was to just bring them into God’s presence just as they were, and he would fix in them what he wanted to be fixed. Love always wins out. God is love.
