Psalm 119.114
How revelation comes
“You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word” [Psalm 119.114 NASB]
David knew, as we also do, that when we take our stand for God, immediately we are in the direct line of the enemy's hostile fire. At that time, we also know and deeply appreciate the truth that God is our defence.
We have all experienced this truth; when, in the midst of the battle, "hope" unexpectedly starts to arise in our hearts and at the same time faith and confidence fortify our spirit man.
When did David realize that God was his defence and protection? It was when he had to fully depend on His word. The school of knowledge for the believer is sprinkled with experiences of various types of warfare, hiding from the enemy and living by faith.
It is at that time that the word reveals to us what God is like, the written word becomes manifest in our experiences, and after tasting the sweet fruit of victory, we know that it is true.
What is the pattern for this revelation? It is not to be found in line with man's knowledge. God delights to confuse His enemies by using their evil schemes to teach His people more about His character, His wisdom and His dependability. Frequently, revelation comes through much tribulation.
Knowing what we believe to be true, we can hold fast to where we are and when the next word comes, we are ready - even though we may feel like a little boat about to be launched on the vast ocean of life, where enemies are aplenty.
However, we are fully assured that He is our navigator and Captain, who has weathered and conquered every storm. [David McArdle]
