Sept 11 2001, ten years ago people of another culture declared war on America. Overnight we were thrust into the cold reality of death and destruction, heart ache and loss, agony over those who were the victims, war had come home to America. On this tenth reminder of those horrific hours the debate continues on the erection of a cross at the site where so many died. What is the true meaning of the cross and why are so many against its presence? Some have said it makes them physically ill, why?
It all goes back to a day when another innocent man was tortured and executed for charges he was not guilty of. He died in the most horrible way anyone could. Dragged through the streets, carrying a wooden cross, the cross he would be nailed to. At the site many watched as large spikes were driven into his hands and feet, stripped naked, bleeding in agony he was raised for all to see. Stripped of all dignity, cast out from those he had helped and ministered to, he turned his head skyward and said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” In those final hours of his mortal life Jesus took on ALL the sin of the world and allowed the judgment of his father, our God to be poured out on him and him alone, so All mankind could share with him, God’s Grace.
That Cross reminds us that one single man, died for all the sin of the world, in every generation, for every man woman and child, for sin we have committed, and those we have yet to commit. Still we want to turn our backs on him, forget those lessons, live for this world and all the strife it causes, all the immorality the greed, the lust for power, the selfishness and we do not realize, we, as Americans, put him there just as if we were there 2000 years ago. Our sin caused his death, but his death was our salvation.
That cross should call to mind a God that loves us so much he sacrificed his Son for us. He is a loving God, not a God of war. God would not kill others for what they believe. God does not promise a reward of immorality, but promises to take care of us and help us if we would only BELIEVE. Maybe the cross does cause physical pain to some, because they know in their hearts the way America is living today is wrong. Maybe the Holy Spirit is trying to send a message, Change, change now. Our answers lie in the bible, not in men, it teaches us to use our resources wisely, to work together for a common good, greed and selfishness have no place in a growing society. Our President, and government do not hold the answers and they can’t fix the problems, only we as a Godly People can do that. The fathers of our country knew that, the growth of this nation is its proof. Are we going to continue to be stubborn and ignore what they professed? The Cross is our salvation if we do not embrace and believe in Jesus sacrifice, then all those who died in 9/11 and those who have died in the past wars have sacrificed themselves for nothing.
The Real message of the Cross is Christian self-denial, living for each other not ourselves as God commands. Leave the greed and lust behind Satan is the prince of this world and he has nothing to offer except death. God is the God of everlasting life that is what was promised through the Death and resurrection of Jesus. Those who embrace this message and live for God and not for self are those who see this time as nothing more than an inconvenience. They know the true reward is with God in heaven. So look at the cross as a symbol of Salvation, and freedom from the bondage of sin. If it pains you maybe it is time that to seek out the lord and have that pain relieved. The Cross our symbol of Undying love From our Father in heaven God, who is more powerful than Allah, Buda, or any other God, because he is LORD.
