(Written 5-20-04, based on Luke 19:1-10)

He came to Jericho, passing through;
It was His heart’s desire.
Zacchaeus heard that He had come,
And wanted to see Him.

Being one of diminutive size,
He could not see Jesus, because of the crowd,
But he was one to overcome obstacles,
For he was a businessman.
So he climbed a sycamore tree.
It was along Jesus’ path.

Jesus looked up, and invited Himself,
He invited Himself to Zach’s house.
The crowd scorned Him,
For He was going to the house of a “sinner.”

Zach, was the head of tax collectors,
Yet the Lord sought the most notorious;
The Son of Man had come,
Seeking to save the lost.

The Lord declared him saved,
For he had sought to restore, fourfold,
All that he had taken by deceit;
He was saved, from the pocketbook, up.
He was a son of Abraham, of the faith,
He was trusting in the Lord.

Zach went climbed a tree for the Lord,
Then He climbed a tree for him.
