Their tormentors forced them to dig their on graves. They began to bury them alive! One grave collapsed, and one person died of asphyxiation. The death was ruled accidental; and the defendants walked! Was this a robbery gone bad, or a hate crime? Neither. This happened at Monmouth College in New Jersey, and was a hazing event. Is it time to do away with hazing?

At Jefferson High school in Monroe, Michigan, students and parents should be happy to know that they don’t have to do college tours. The tours; the joys of college life, are being brought to them.

Some younger students have alleged that they, in a hazing ritual, were urinated on. They further allege that were held down and sexually assaulted. On the streets; these are considered the most horrific events. But, if you do it at a school...

How long before a smart defense attorney uses hazing as a defense? “We didn’t mean anything by it, your honor. It was a little harmless hazing.”

In case you’re wondering, hazing also exists at the most prestigious of University’s. A Cornell University student was bound and forced to drink alcohol until he passed out. George Desdunes later died. A proud mother’s dream becomes a nightmare. Is it time to outlaw hazing?

What does the Bible say about hazing? The same thing it says about a driver who cuts you off or jumping a curb and hitting a crowd of people. Nothing! And it shouldn’t have to.

God did not perform a hazing ritual on Joshua or Caleb to determine who would replace Moses. In order to replace Judas, the disciples did not haze the candidates. Paul’s blinding on the road to Damascus was designed for him to see the Gentiles in the right light, not an “eye hazing” scheme concocted by Jesus!

The umbrella of the “golden rule” is not sufficient. The very essence of hazing is doing unto others as you would have them do unto you…It is why hazing continues to go on and on and on
Christian parents must stand up and call this wrong! School leaders of Christian schools must call for an end to hazing. Parents need to teach children that participation in hazing, whether you are hazing or being hazed, is just plain wrong!

Tomorrow, it may be your child. Tomorrow, it may happen in an elementary school. Tomorrow is too late to stop hazing.
