If You Experienced or Saw a Miracle

If you experienced or saw a miracle, would you just assume because it was a miracle that it was from God? An interesting question isn’t it? Yet, we are living in the days when not all miracles may be from God. How are we to know the difference?

Maybe you might say what is the difference as a miracle is a miracle and a good thing. Well, Jesus had something to say about this.

Mathew 7:
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Doesn’t this seem interesting that even though they cast our demons, prophesied, and did marvelous works that Jesus said to depart as He never knew them? You would think that with these signs that it had to be God doing them. Obviously there can be a counterfeit. I have seen some of the counterfeit and it is very deceptive and not everyone realizes the false. They get their eyes on the miracle more than the spirit behind it.

I have witnessed a man that was invited to a church solely because miracles happened. I was singing on the worship team and the power and presence of God was awesome. When the worship time was over I went to sit down. This man came up to speak. All the sudden in me it was like a person threw a switch as the Holy Spirit just disappeared. It was really strange. I listened to the guy and what he had to say was scriptural so I was at a loss to know what was happening. I just knew inside there was something wrong. He finally ended his message and started praying over people. The chairs were moved as he prayed and then he looked at me. I felt myself saying inside, don’t even think about laying hands on me and praying over me. He just glared at me from across the room. I decided to leave. I wrestled with this for some time, as I couldn’t understand what the problem was. I figured that I was off somewhere as it seemed everyone else went along with what was said and done. I just knew inside that I was right though no idea why. Finally after much seeking the Lord I knew the answer. The Holy Spirit revealed to me that this man was operating under a familiar spirit. This spirit mimicked the things of the Holy Spirit. It looks right but it is a demonic spirit doing the works. I returned finally to the church and noticed something very different. The people before this man came were loving and friendly yet now were so cold. I decided to talk to the pastor about this and was surprised at the response. I was asked why I had not told them about this? I had said that it was because I just found out myself. The church was so caught up in the miracles that they failed to check out the spirit behind them. They hadn’t sought the Lord before bringing this man to the church.

My Bible says in 1Jo 5:6, This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

The Holy Spirit is truth. The Holy Spirit bears witness to truth. If we are listening to the Holy Spirit we will know when it is truth or it is false. It may look and sound like a sheep, but it may be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The second observance is that in Mathew is that they did these things in Jesus name. Just because they did this in His name does not mean that it was from God. Have you never been misrepresented before? Well Jesus is quite often.

I recently was having a physical problem. A man came up to me and was wanting to pray for me. I had never experienced anything quite like this is why I am sharing this. It seemed innocent enough but when I tried to say something he told me to shut up as I was about to get a miracle. I felt real uncomfortable from that point on. He proceeded with words of condemnation over my lack of knowing something. He kept telling me over and over that this was in Jesus’ name, which I thought was very odd, because he placed so much emphasis on saying that. Looking at the scripture the ones talking to the Lord had said have we not prophesied in your name? This guy was emphatically saying that it was in Jesus name. I believe it was a spirit trying to deceive me with Jesus name. He was trying to get me sucked in with the right words. Afterward I dealt with confusion for two days and couldn’t understand what happened. Once again I learned a lesson. Even though this man was known for having miracles apparently all over the world, I realized there was something missing. What was missing was love. Love is about you not about the one that wants to pray for you. Love is not self-pleasing. Love esteems a brother higher than self. Love does not behave unseemly. Sometimes I think we need to go back and study what real love is. Scripture says:

1Co 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1Co 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Mt 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mt 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Ga 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

One of the fruit of the spirit is love. No matter what may seem to be God and a miracle it has to have love to be Him. God is love. The devil can’t copy love.

The bottom line then is this. We are told to:

1Jo 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

We must try the spirits. How do we do this? First, what does our spirit say? Do we have a witness inside that this is good or bad no matter what we see? Secondly, is there Holy Spirit fruit? If there isn’t both of these things, get away from that person no matter how good it looks to the eyes. There is something amiss.

Especially in these days we must learn to listen to our spirit. It is our protection from the Lord. The Spirit of God bears witness to truth. So many Christians do not know how to listen to their spirit so are in grave danger of being sucked in to things. You may be like me and feel like you are the only one sensing something amiss. Don’t give in to the crowd, listen to your spirit. God will protect us from the false if we will listen to our spirit instead of what we see or hear. Remember that the devil also knows the Word of God and can quote it better than we can. Just because it is God’s Word does not mean that the Holy Ghost is quoting it. Just because it is a miracle or a sign and wonder does not mean that it is from God. Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
