Old Man

God, I am just an old man,
can’t hear and I’ve gone blind.

Everyday I sit in the park,
hoping the sun will shine.

Lord, let my life count today.
Make me a blessing to someone I pray.

I just finished my prayer,
or at least I was trying.

When someone sat next to me,
who was obviously crying.

They mumbled some words,
that weren’t very clear.

My hand felt moist,
from their falling tears.

I said, “There, there, God understands.”
Feebly I reached to embrace the hand.

When I thought they’d poured out their heart,
I said, “God’s love for you, will never depart.”

It seemed the person had hope once again,
for I was tightly hugged like an old time friend.

Then suddenly the person just slipped away.
I had joy in my heart, for I was a blessing today.
