A review of thirty-one psychological and sociological research papers with regards to church attendance and religiosity as it relates to family stability and mental/physical health was conducted. The purpose of this review was to determine the utility and profitability of weekly church attendance versus low or no church attendance. The following conclusions could be drawn from these results:
• Families that attended church on a weekly basis tended to exhibit greater stability than those who had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis exhibited higher levels of positive self-esteem than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis exhibited lower rates of divorce than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis exhibited fewer instances of suicide than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis tended to be more generous in donating their time, talent and treasure than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis tended to exhibit higher degrees of excellent to good physical health and less debilitating illness than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis were less involved in substance abuse and addictions than whose that had low or no church attendance.
• Married family members that attended church on a weekly basis were reported to have had less instances of adultery than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Family members that attended church on a weekly basis were reported to have higher degrees of happiness than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Children in families that attended church on a weekly basis reported to have fewer instances of social crime and were incarcerated less than those that had low or no church attendance.
• Children in families that attended church on a weekly basis were reported to have performed better in school with greater academic achievement than those children that had low or no church attendance.
