Hebrews 2:3

KJV - How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed by those who heard him.

If a stranger jumped in front of you to take a bullet that was meant for your heart, you would be obligated to that person. However, over the natural course of time you would still face death. Despite their sacrifice, your inevitable death would only be postponed, not forever removed. We see the vastness of God's love for us in His Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Did you ever wonder why Jesus had to die on the Cross?

With the solemnity of Resurrection Day so fresh in my mind, I see God's great glory in my life and everyone else's because of what He did for me. Instead of being obligated to a stranger for merely postponing the natural course of life; to be born, age, progress, and die, Jesus Christ supercedes nature. He made it. Jesus is not a stranger, He is God in human flesh. He sits at the right hand of of the Father. He did not postpone the inevitable, He opened the door to eternity.

If Jesus had done everything but die on our behalf, resurrect, and appear to His disciples to share with us the door He opened, His glorious message would have had no meaning. If He had performed the great miracles, taught forgiveness, enlightened mankind with the reconciliation with God despite our sin, it would have been meaninginless without the atoning sacrifice and a heart beating that had to stop and be quickened to live again forever for our sakes.

Could you imagine Him doing eveything but go to the Cross, suffer a humilating, agonizing death and Rise? Can you imagine His ascension? Telling the disciples," I told you what to do" The heavens open," I'll see you later, I am headed back home."

No. There was no other way. He had to die to be resurrected, and in so doing, we will never die. That is God's great love for us. He wants that for all of His children. Faith in Christ is not postponing the inevitable , it is eternal life for the "great salvation" we cannot neglect. Knowing this, we must heed what God spoke through two angels when He did ascend," ........so shall come again in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."

We have a lot to do. He expects us to be the stranger that jumps in front of another who has a bullet aimed for their heart.
