Apologetics
Pass me not by,
Gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others
Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Jesus, Jesus,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others
Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
This is a popular hymn that we love to sing in Churches, Fellowships and as individuals. We do not want our gentle Savior to pass us by, but on several occasions we fail to recognize His hand of compassion. So, many times, He passes us by.
Do you want to know one of the reasons? We look elsewhere when He has chosen the weak to help the strong.
How happy will you be if you are connected with President Barak Obama of United States of America? There is every reason to believe that any help can come from him because “he has the whole world in his pocket”.
After all, you may be perfectly wrong. The Lord can use those you look down upon to assist you in a way you least expect. Let us consider the case of two persons from the Holy Bible to drive this point home.
The strong man has these to his credit.
“… Commander of the army of the king of Syria was a great and
honourable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the Lord had
given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor…” 2 kings 5:1 (New
King James Version)
The weak one has this written about her,
“And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and brought back captive a young
girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman’s wife”. 2 kings 5:2
(New King James Version).
Now the concluding part of verse one states the weakness of the mighty man, Naaman thus, “… but a leper.”
As strong as he was, Naaman, was leprous. He was a reknown leper! His master, king of Syria could not help him. When an attempt was made later to contact another king, king of Israel, he too was helpless. The solution was found in the mouth of the weak girl. She said to her mistress, Naaman’s wife, in verse three
“If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would
heal Him of his leprosy”.
A captive girl. A slave in a strange land. If Naaman had wanted to prove to her his might, there is nothing he could not do to or with her. “A slave girl, you even see my leprosy. Why can’t the prophet save you and your country from my sword?
This would have come from Naaman’s mouth but he did not say so. He followed her humble suggestion. What was the final result?
“So he went down and dipped seven times in Jordan, according to the
saying of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of the
little child, and he was clean”. 2 kings 5:14 (New King James Version)
The Lord remains the same. For Him not to pass you by, recognize the way and manner He has chosen to hear your humble cry. You may be looking unto mountains when He has decided to use the lowly for you.
Apostle Paul has this to say to us all:
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the
wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the
things that are mighty”. 1 Corinthians 1:27 (New King James Version)
May the Lord grant you the grace to recognize those foolish and weak things that he has purposed to use for His glory in your life in Jesus name.
