Matthew 4 (New Living Translation)

Matthew 4 (New Living Translation)

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. 2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. 3 During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Dearly Beloved Brothers and Sisters, the above scripture text is one that is very intriguing with numerous revelations however: I would like to draw your attention to verse 4 and the a part where the New Living Translation bible declares," ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."

The setting of the text is that Jesus has been led in the wilderness to be tempted of the devil for 40 days and 40 nights and afterward he was hungry. Two things that I would like to point out, starting with the first thing which is," all of your wilderness experiences are not orchestrated by the devil. In this case Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. Secondly, " the devil will always try to tempt you with your natural desires". It is not wrong to be hungry as Jesus was however; how you satisfy your natural desires is how the devil tries to get you to sin and fall short of God's best for your life.

The scripture declares that tempter came to him (Jesus) and said.....
Note that the adversary consistently tries to tempt you with words.

The battlefield between the Kingdom of light and the Kingdom of darkness takes place in the mind and words are the weapon of choice. Take a closer view how Jesus warred and won with his words over the devil. Jesus said that, " Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
The Word of God sustains us in our spiritual lives just as bread help sustain us in our physical lives. Man can not partake of bread only and live but he needs the bread from heaven which is Jesus Christ to have life and life more abundantly! Bread will assist in sustaining us in this life but the Bread from Heaven will give us eternal life. Man can not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The scriptures are the Word that proceeds from the mouth of God and it sustains us through this life of trails and tribulations and prepares us for life eternal.
