DOES EVERY CHRISTIAN DENY CHRIST?
Jesus hand-picked twelve men and one betrayed Him, one denied Him and the others ran away, wanting nothing to do with their Lord.
On the Mount of Transfiguration, the Father said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
God didn’t tell the disciples to go study Moses, who gave the first covenant or Elijah, who called Israel back to Yahweh.
God told the disciples to listen to Jesus. Christ’s teaching went beyond just abstaining from adultery – He said lusting or desiring beyond your commitment was a sin.
The Savior said His followers should live differently, “Whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment” of heaven.
Jesus also said, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”
St. Francis of Assisi supposedly said “Preach the Gospel; And if necessary, use words…” Christ used words, but His actions spoke the same message.
If anyone ever had a reason to be angry at how He was treated, Jesus had a just cause for righteous indignation. The Pharisees had an illegal night trial…
They paid people to lie and they twisted His words to give them a false meaning. They slandered His motives and slurred His intentions.
The leaders of His own people deliberately rejected the plainest scriptural evidence that Jesus was the Messiah and the “Prophet” of Deuteronomy 18.
But on the cross Christ lived out His own teachings – He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
Notice after His resurrection Jesus never ranted or raved about how unfairly He had been treated by the Pharisees. He had forgiven them and it was over.
Jesus knew the end result of His mission, we Christians don’t know when we will be unjustly accused or attacked. But we can be sure we will be blamed, as Jesus was.
Genuine Christians will cultivate the same spirit of generosity Christ displayed. We will rejoice to exhibit the sweet spirit of love for our enemies that Jesus did.
Sincere Christians treasure a spirit of meekness, and when slighted delight to forgive those who despitefully use them, just like Jesus taught and did.
Does every Christian deny Christ, or are there a few in America who actually delight to live as He did?
