There was a young student who wanted to gain knowledge of how to know God more so he went to Socrates and told Socrates of his desire. Socrates asked the young student, if he trusted him and the student pondered for a brief moment and replied "Why yes, wise Socrates, I would give you my life!" "Good" Socrates replied that is what I had hoped you would say". Socrates proceeded to grab the neck of the young student and dunke his head in the river for 10 seconds and pulled the young head of the boy out of the water and asked, "Young boy, what is it that you want more than anything?" The boy replied, "I want to know God, master Socrates." and then Socrates proceeded to dunk the students head in the water again and held it for 30 seconds this time and pulled the head of the boy out of the water and asked, "Young boy, what is it that you want more than anything?" The boy replied, "I want to know God, master Socrates." So, this time Socrates asked the young man for verification if the trust was still there between them and the young lad nodded yes after a few minutes of contemplation and bewilderment. This time Socrates held the boys head under water for a full minute even with the young man's amrs flailing for release. And he proceeded to pull the young boys' head out of the river bank and asked Young boy, what is it that you want more than anything?" And they young lad searching for air, replied, "Air, master Socrates, Air!!"
We all may say we want God, but how do we really want him. We may say we have a deep hungry, but are we really starving for all the resources God has to offer. Are we exhausted enough on our own to give our burdens and surrender to His rest. We must need God as we need Air and treat him as thus, as something that we cannot live without. For we all have struggles and pains and burdens that weigh us down and try to keep us from the arms of God and the care of our saviour.
But, it is whether we choose our hunger for God to control us or the hunger for becoming free of problems, because, it is when we truly hunger for God then does the reality of being free come to reality and fruition. We must hunger as a bear who has just awoken from hibernation, we must awake out of this state of spiritual hibernation and hunger for all the things of our loving God who pursues us with a disruptive kind of veracity and love...
