Devotionals
This year our family got smacked pretty good with colds and flu, and with a large family, if someone gets it, everyone gets it.
So it becomes a long endless trail of Kleenex, dirty laundry, and tears.
Not being content to stay within our family, we saw the unpleasant company visit families in church and on to the employees of my husbands work place.
It was everywhere like an invisible boogie man, causing fear and uncertainty with whispers in the media of spring swine flu.
Last year, we went to a homeschooling convention in Oshkosh, the same weekend they shut down all of the weekend activities in the Milwaukee school system, when Swine Flu first raised it's head.
Few people were at the convention, and those that did come, came and left as quick as possible.
What both of these events have in common is fear.
We went to Oshkosh knowing that the Swine Flu hysteria was still being played up by the news.
We knew that people had been reported having it in the area.
And still we went, not just hubby and I, but all of our precious girls.
Did I have some concerns about going? Yes, but my greater concern was being scared out of my faith.
I have had times when I have had spiritual influenza, when my faith was not where it needed to be, when what I saw with my eyes, weighed more influence on my faith than the truth of what I knew in my heart.
The truth is I have a God that is bigger than any current headline, who will carry me through whatever the world may lay at my feet.
My God reaches down and strengthens me through His holy word, through the leading of my family, through the support and love of my brethren.
All there to help me with my walk in His name, I walk in the truth of what I know and shut my eyes to the lies that would blind me to how great my God is.
No matter how many times I may fall down and cry, I will stand up and walk in his name.
Spiritual influenza may come and go, but my God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, and knowing that, I will continue to run the race on the strength of His promises.
2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

That is why I do not cry woe is me when I read the distressing headlines or hear them on the news. My God is bigger, like you say, and that keeps my head up and a smile on my face, and courage in my heart. God bless you.
