Encouragement
We all yearn for tomorrow, the resplendent new day which will help accomplish our dreams, surpassing all our hopes and expectations. Tomorrow is that delicate day, the fruitful and fulfilling one which will bring the desired results that our heart awaits. Sometimes, today can hardly wait to get over so that tomorrow can begin.
Being the sentimentalist that I am, I have been re-watching a lot of classics recently, the ones which get me all teary eyed and melts my heart. The famous ones that top my list are “ Ben Hur’, ‘Love Story’, ‘Casablanca’, ‘ Roman Holiday’, ‘Thorn Birds’ and ‘Gone with the Wind.’
In the famous movie ‘Gone with the wind’, the striking line at the end of this movie which remains with us long after the movie is over is; “ Tomorrow is another day.”
Yes, tomorrow is definitely another day to try, to risk, to work at, to live, to love, to pray, to give our all……
Tomorrow is going to be adorned with the finest emotions to sparkle and stand out. Scintillating and spell binding, it will hold us wrapped in its moments of delight. The more we look forward and anticipate it, the better we are going to live it.
There are manifold uses of tomorrow, some use it to improve themselves, to make up for yesterday, to reconcile with God and others.
Yet, others keep tomorrow on hold, they want to turn back to God but are not yet prepared to do it in full and earnest.
Much before St. Augustine’s conversion, he used to pray to God; “Lord help me to be pure but not yet.”
He was still holding back a part of him, not fully ready to give his all in total surrender.
But when he converted to Christianity, he pleaded to the Lord with these words;
“ O Lord, how long? how long, Lord, wilt Thou be angry forever? Remember not our former iniquities, for I felt that I was held by them. How long, how long, "to-morrow, and tomorrow?" Why not now? “
Still some try to run away from tomorrow, as we see in the famous movie‘Quo Vadis’ As St. Peter tries to flee from the persecution in Rome, the Lord Jesus appears to him on the way. When Peter asks Jesus where He is going, the Lord answers that He is going to Rome to be crucified again. This makes Peter ashamed of his fleeing act and he returns to Rome to face a bold tomorrow and as we all know, he was crucified and thus martyred for his love for Christ.
Sometimes, we too draw back from giving God our all, we tell ourselves that tomorrow, we will shun certain vices, go to Church, pray and repent. There is time when tomorrow comes.
But maybe, there is not enough time because if life does not give us a tomorrow, then we have lost the chance today. After all, today is the tomorrow that we waited for yesterday.
All said and done, when that precious tomorrow does come, we should make sure that we are ready for it, well prepared to accept it and enjoy it to the fullest; to taste its flavor, savor each moment and make it a memorable one but not alone. This has to be done with the love and blessings of the Great Giver of Tomorrow from above.
