Healthy Living
I woke up this morning thinking about needing God’s help to get through the day, as I often do when it comes to my health and making decisions. I got to thinking about my body being the Temple of God. I started comparing it to our own homes. We want them to look nice and be in good shape. All our homes are different. Some are small, huge, average, beautiful and even spectacular. We are careful about what we put in our homes, wanting it relaxing and comforting. We want it to have carefully chosen decorations and accessories. We also have to make sure that home is working properly, such as plumbing, heating, air and our appliances. Things that keep our home running in good order or there would be caous.
Now, let’s look at the spiritual side of this Temple of Christ that He is living in. Our bodies!
• We want our Temples to look nice when people see us. (like our homes) Hair, make up, clothes, accessories.
• We want our Temples to be in good shape. (like our homes) They are all different. People are different shapes and sizes and that is ok. It would be boring if we all looked the same. Really! All God’s Temple’s are beautiful, because God don’t make no junk.
• We need to be careful what we put in our Temples, (like we are in our homes) We want it comforting and relaxing.
• Imagine bringing in the ugliest piece of furniture that you can think of. (this comparison is fats, sugars, etc.) Think of it as nasty, with this horrendous smell. (which, depending on what you have eaten, could compare to yes, I am saying it. GAS!) The ugly piece of furniture would make your home look bad and stink it up.
• Our Temple is the same way. We should not let anything nasty in these Temples. (speaking nutritionally and spiritually) Sometimes things slip in without us realizing it. Think of our child putting food under their bed and finding it three weeks later. We have to stay on top of it or the growth will start revealing that there is a problem. (weight gain) (if there is a smell, there it is again, GAS!)
• The way our Temples function is another issue. (like our homes) This is where the health issue comes in. Can you imagine your home with no water? (the Temple needs water) What about appliances? (see them as spiritual gifts from God) I would not like to live in the olden days and hand wash clothes or go without air. I am very spoiled.
• Our Temples have gifts we need to use for the Lord. Search your Temple and use your abilities for Him. You have to keep certain things in your in check for it to run smoothly and to live happily, keeping it pure.
We have to take care of this physical Temple that God lives in, if we want to be able to do His work. Health is one of the last things we put on our list. We all know bad health can stop us in our tracks from doing anything, even working. It can stop the work of God in our lives too.
We need to take even more time for our Temples than we do our homes and this is why. Your home can not go out and draw a heart to God. Yes, you can invite people into your home for various reasons. But if you are not healthy, you won’t feel like it. When my diabetes was out of control, there were days when it was hard to even pray, because of the fatigue that it brings. Your home can’t pray for someone. Your home can’t get up and go be with someone whose world has crashed around them and they need a person to come wrap their arms around them and encourage them in the Lord.
This devotion comes from a heart that has been there and done that. I know what it is to be so tired I can’t go anywhere, outings with family, outdoors with my husband, even church at times. Bad health limits us. I could not work for Christ the way I wanted to because I was limited to what my body would let me do.
I want people to take care of themselves so that they are ready, willing and able to go, when God calls. I never realized how important my health was until I lost the weight that held me back.
Some of you are healthy and this may not hit home with you. But most ladies or guys, I believe will relate to some part of my devotion, even if it’s just learning to eat some healthy foods, or walking 20 minutes a day. Small changes make big differences. I want to see the people of God be strong, bold, extreme warriors for God. Going out to minister to others and bringing them back our churches. My concern is truly helping you, to be all you can be for God and helping you recognize if there is anywhere in your life that could be holding you back.
We can have beautiful homes of course, that is important to us. But our Temples need to be spectacular with the presence of God all over us, so that when people see us, they see the beauty of the Lord glowing on us. With that, having the health to be able to do anything that God opens the doors for us to do.
16Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13
