Devotionals
Because of surgery I need to take it easy and for the most part do nothing.
No lifting, pulling, pushing. Nothing over 10 pounds. No steps.
Pretty much my wings have been clipped as far as taking care of the housework.
I look around and the mom in me groans at what I see.
Grape jelly on the counter. Clean dishes mixed in with dirty dishes. Garbage overflowing onto the floor. Dirty laundry laying on the floor. Baskets of clean laundry piled on top of each other. Floors that need to be vacumed and swept. Chaos, total chaos, the mom in me wants to point out and say hey somebody, this needs taken care of.....
But, the part of me that questions my value as a mom, wife, gleefully sees the things that are not getting done and I realize they really really need me, not because I make sure the garbage is taken out, that the counter gets wiped, that laundry gets done, but because of all the times I get to serve my family, all the things that go unnoticed in our day to day lives, become real clear the moment mom steps out of the picture. I am necessary to the well being of my family.
It clarifys for me the importance of who I am, not only in my family, but also in being in the family of God.
I have a part to p lay in the work of God.
My part might be as small as a smile to a stranger or as big as proclaiming the word of God in some far off place as a missionary.
Something I frequently forget in my day to day life.
But when I sit back and listen to what God wants me to do, I see the value I and everyone else has. I am not here to see how fast I can complete my to do list, or make sure the garbage is taken out.
I am here as a child of God, wonderfully made, with a purpose, to serve him in everything I do.
Whether it is for my family or for that one soul in some far off land, I will serve, I am here in this place, in this time, for Him.
Psalm 100:1 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Psa 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Psa 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Psa 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Psa 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
