From one who knows himself better than before: I am the last person to be talking about prayer. I do not consider myself a prayer warrior, not by any stretch of the imagination. No less true than that is the need for prayer, for me or anyone else.
It is also a commandment and a practice of Jesus when He was here. Yes, He still talks with His Father.

Nevertheless is the fact that prayer can be such a struggle. I will turn on the TV faster than pray. Why is that?

I think it is me, or should I say ourselves. Something equally true is how we love to talk about ourselves rather than listen to someone else. We are innately selfish. I believe that is why prayer can be so challenging. Even if I do pray I rather pray about me than another person because I am the most important person I know of.

Now I have a great church, and yet one ministry that struggles there is the Prayer Ministry. I believe the reason for that is the same I mention above. We just do not want to pray about others. If we do it would have to be because we have matured to be considerate of others.

It is seemingly natural for a Christian to want to be like Christ, it is born of a love for Him. I just wonder if we consider a “short-cut” to being like Jesus-being an intercessor. I mean right now I can be like Jesus by praying for you. Are we not intimidated or impressed with those who pray on the spot the moment someone mentions a concern of theirs to that intercessor? I become aware of just how lazy and undisciplined I am about praying for others, especially when I could bless them by letting them see and hear me pray for them when they ask me. I have an opportunity to show them an aspect of this Lord we worship.

If my flesh (selfish nature) is my enemy, prayer is my friend. If anyone has been helped it has started through prayer.

While the Son of God was God He still prayed, out of human need, as well as a desire to commune with His Father. He prayed because He loved His Father. That may also be the motive behind His prayers for others.

Am I better than He?

Maybe I should pray about that…
