In my brief article “How long did Noah’s flood last” I mentioned that there were many mysteries embedded within the Flood Story. One such mystery that is seemingly overlooked is the strong allusion to the human gestational period. I realize that it may be difficult for some to “wrap their minds” around this one, but we’ll see what we get and it is what it is! As usual, we will look at the appropriate verses below.
Genesis 7:11 (KJV)
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Genesis 8:4 (KJV)
4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month…
From the seventeenth day of the second month to the seventeenth day of the seventh month is 150 days as noted in Genesis 7:24 and Genesis 8:3.
Genesis 8:5 (KJV)
5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
If maintaining an average 30-days per lunar month, then Genesis 8:5 brings us up to the 225th day since the flood began. At this point we read the next verse…
Genesis 8:6 (KJV)
6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
Adding forty full days (remember at the “end of forty days”) to the previous 225 days brings us to the 266th day since the beginning of the flood. Remember that nine lunar months is 265.5 days or 266 days rounded. It is also the typical amount of time assigned from conception to the last menstrual period in a human female. So from the beginning of the flood (fertilization/conception) to Noah opening the window of the ark (last menstrual period), 266 days have elapsed! However, it gets better than this. Let’s look at some more!
Genesis 8:7 (KJV)
7 And he sent forth a raven…
This was at the end of the forty days so no extra time period has elapsed.
Genesis 8:8 (KJV)
8 Also he sent forth a dove…
This is after seven days which is derived from Genesis 8:10.
Genesis 8:10 (KJV)
10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again sent forth the dove out of the ark;
At this point in the story, we must add 14 days to our 266th day as derived from our previous chronology. We are now at the 280th day since the beginning of the flood. Many will recognize that as the general gestational age during human pregnancy! So what happens now in the story?
Genesis 8:11 (KJV)
11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth, was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
Do you see the pattern of human gestation? From the beginning of the flood as noted in Genesis 7:11 until the return of the dove with the olive branch in Genesis 8:11 is 280 days! One can easily tie this in with the end time judgment and our Messiah, Yeshua. Blessed be!
