Going Through Trials Should Be Easy!
Many of us, when faced with a time of testing by God, view “trials” as tough times and difficult to get through.
Satan throws everything at us to distract us from God. Satan wants us to lose our confidence in God…to get off the path toward righteous living….pull us away from witnessing to others about Jesus and what he did for sinners that day on the cross.
I have asked myself, while going through a trial that started in January of 2008…and effectively ended sixteen months later, “Why does God let us go through the actual FEARS that Satan throws in front of us? Why not let us escape those FEARS?
I have now discovered why God allows us to go right into the actual FEARS that Satan throws in front of us.
God lets us get all the way into the FEAR process to show that He is in control and will protect us from those FEARS that Satan WILL throw at us, and to train us so we know we can overcome any FEAR whatsoever…because God is with us - when we TRUST HIM.
Daniel was told that if he did not bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar, he would be tossed into a lion’s den. That was the threat to make him bow down before the king, but Daniel knew that God woud protect him.
Daniel was, in fact, lowered down in the the hungry den of lions by a rope. He wasn’t phased. Not one lion came toward him aggressively. Daniel was taken out of the lion’s den and the men who convicted him before the king were thrown into the same lion’s den…with their wives and children. This time, the lions broke their bones and tore them apart BEFORE they hit the bottom of the pit!
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were told they would be cast into the fiery furnace by the king because they would not bow down before the huge statue that Nebuchadnezzar had made of himself.
Satan must have thought he would get these three young men to do what the king told them to do with the threat of death…in a FIERY FURNACE. That would (or should) scare any of us if faced with the same threat, right?
Well, relying on God, all three stood while thousands bowed. How distinct they must have looked to all the others who bowed before the god-like statue of the king. Three standing among thousands kneeling.
They were thrown into the furnace that was heated up to seven times hotter than normal. Those that had to handle the three lads were consumed by the fire BEFORE they dropped the boys into the furnace.
When the king approached the furnace some time later, he called out their names…figuring they would not answer, but all three said, “We are here”. When the king looked down into the furnace, he saw the three plus one…an angel of God.
Not a hair was singed…no smoke smell was found upon their clothes. God wants us to know that He will guide us THROUGH whatever tests that we are given to endure. He will protect us from EVERY FEAR that Satan throws at us, and belive me, he has thrown a barrage of them my way.
Daniel and the three faced their FEARS – knowing they had a protector in almighty God…the creator of the universe.
This is what I have learned, and what a blessing it is. I can face any FEAR that Satan throws at me BECAUSE God is me protector. None of my worst fears equalled those of Daniel or his three friends. My FEARS pale in comparison.
I know, however, that I will face FEAR again and again, but the difference between the end of my trial and the beginning is that I know that the outcome will be good. “ALL THINGS work together for GOOD to those who love the Lord.”
Facing FEARS is part of the learning experience that God wants us to know.
Facing lions is what we do as Christians because Satan himself is called the “roaring lion” who continuously seeks out Christians with the intent to destroy us or our confidence in our God.
1 Peter 5:8 – “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
When Satan hurls FEAR my way now, I simply go to God and ask Him to protect me from that fiery dart. I then remind Satan that it is he who is the loser in the end. He loses – I win!
