“God will work it all out dear”
“God will work it all out dear”. That was my Mother’s popular saying to me, whenever I was worried about something.
I had three jobs at the age of thirteen. I went to work full time at age 15. I was a nanny as a young teen through my late twenties. As a rule, as a nanny, I usually became a part of the family I was serving. I recall one such incident very well.
I was twenty three at the time. I had been a believer for about eight years. I enjoyed sharing my faith with the children I cared for. Amazingly, I never incurred any problems as a result of doing so.
One day in 1986.
I had been a nanny for a German lady. She was a single Mother of one son. Her brother lived in the apartment below her. Her parents use to give me vegetables from their garden. I was employed there for about two years.
One day her ex-husband phoned me. He yelled about Jesus being the Savior. On and on he went. Soon after that call, she told me that she was placing her son in day care. Her ex-husband would give her trouble otherwise. So, she placed her son in day care, and I searched for a new nanny job.
The problem I ran into was, when I would apply for another nanny job,she revealed why I left her employment, I would not get the next job. People did not want to hear about Christ. I became worried I would never secure another nanny job. I said to my Mother,” do you things will work out for me Mom”? “I’m sure God will work it all out dear”, Mom would say. “How”? I asked her.”Well, I don’t’ know, but God will work it all out”, she would say to me. God did work it all out. Mom was right. Her trust in God to work things out, probably came from years of trusting God herself as a single Mother [Dad had been gone for years]. God did work things out. She had a difficult life herself. But she trusted God to work things out for her. She spoke from experience. What a wise lady Mom was.
One day in 1986, I finally applied for and secured employment as a nanny for a professor at a Catholic University. She actually hired me because she wanted her daughter to hear about Christ. God had been faithful to provide not just a job, but a job where I could share my faith openly. Mom was right, God did work it all out.
This incident reminds me of Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. What a great promise to us as believers.
Many times we find ourselves in the midst of difficult circumstances. Sometimes we are tempted to get discouraged and give up. We find ourselves worrying about the future. Maybe we lose a job, get cheated by someone that we purchased something from. Many things happen to us on our journey in life. Each of the circumstances alone may not be great or make us happy. However, God has a way of taking all the circumstances and putting them together to make them work for our good. Notice the verse says, ‘All things work together for good”. God has a way of putting circumstances together to make them work out. It is the big picture that counts, not each single circumstance.
Another example is a story I heard years ago. Imagine for a minute, you are an artist. You have a mirror you just dropped. It broke in many small pieces. You take all the little pieces and create a work of art. When you are finished, you have a beautiful mosaic. You decorate it with many colors. When you hang it on the wall, it shines and glimmers when the lights are on. It gives the appearance it is actually precious stones. However, in reality, it is nothing more than a broken mirror you have created yourself. I think that is how God does in our lives. We live in a fallen world. Things are broken. Our lives are often broken. Then God comes along and makes a masterpiece out of the broken pieces.
Application: What are you worried about? What is broken in your life? Have you lost something precious to you? Remember that God can take all the circumstances and weave them together to make something beautiful.
Prayer: Lord, help us remember you are at work in our lives. Sometimes bad things happen to us. We lose things that mean a lot to us. Help us trust you with all our daily circumstances even when we don’t understand and when life is difficult.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
