Once more Christmas is here with us and the year 2009 is almost a history! How soon the year runs. Last year for the cause of national a assignment the celebrated event was 'postponed' by many. It was around this time that our beloved country was striving to assert her self as a true rising star with true faith in multi party elections, and as is expected of participatory elections the whole country was tensed with mixed feelings.
Many things went on but thank goodness we came out of the woods by the hand of God! On such occasion of Christmas when the whole world pays a special tribute to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ and remind ourselves of the amazing love and commitment of God towards humankind we must particularly as a nation deeply reflect on our recent past especially in out last general elections and take some bold steps to renew our keeping power.
We must first acknowledge the love and commitment of God which is with us without which our story would have been a different one. Also we must reassure ourselves as one people and determination to work together to ensure peace by all means. Christmas is a memorable time of our Lord when the heavens kissed the earth and light shone over darkness giving mankind a new hope. It is time to consider Christ and rededicate to God as we share with each other gifts of love and appreciation.
On this occasion it won’t be bad at all to see the beautiful life of God manifested in many ways in leadership and heads of society; political, traditional and of course all levels of society. We must demonstrate in more practical terms our will to overcome ourselves and determination to cross over our fears to the 'other side' of unity and peace. Let's see our leaders reach out to themselves and bring us all along!
The season of Christ’s birth and Christmas is inviting to step into a new state and life of consensus building in national development and unity. We are been called to join hands to develop a stronger and buoyant socio-economic sovereign Ghana where we will all be happy to live in our land and sing the praise of our country. We are invited to recognize each others ability, interest and fears and also appreciate that we are one big family regardless our differences or weaknesses i.e. ethnic, party, religious and socio cultural backgrounds.
Given the fact that the birth of Christ is a universally acclaimed life process and brings hope and refreshment to life and the world notwithstanding the mysteries that surround it, the divine revelation of Christ is worth stressing for our deeper understanding of the occasion. This Jesus before He was born was foretold by prophets, studied and honoured by wise men but opposed by men.
This same Jesus was the personality of the spirit of God working in the prophets and the remarkable men of God in ancient times. He was in the heart of Moses rescuing the Israelites from captivity in Egypt; He was the spirit of Elijah demonstrating the power of God and in the hearts of Jeremiah revealing the wrath of God toward sinners and Jonah reaching out to the lost.
This Jesus whom we are celebrating is the revelation of God in our time and He is in this last millennium reaching out to the world with a special message of love to mankind and inviting goodwill saying 'come unto me all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest!' There is indeed rest in God and all we are all invited to experience this rest through a bold initiative into a process of divine connectivity and salvation.
As a nation we are blessed by God, we have all the resources we need i.e. the talents, minerals, minds, abilities, so on such occasion is appropriate for us to review our lives to see and chart a new course. We must not allow the year to pass without soberly thinking about the destiny of our dear nation and security of our generation. We need to critically observe current state of affairs and consider mapping out strategies and system to improve and carve for ourselves an even better status in the world society. To achieve this feat:
• We must consider our socio-politico and cultural values, world views and approaches towards ensuring our democratic and human rights and work towards a renewed thinking and self confidence for proud a national esteem and self respect. I.e. We must initiate solid cultural values and systems that develops the individual life and world view 'inside out' and also places greater emphasize on our strengths other than our differences
• Effective non partisan intelligence systems must be advocated for proactive responds and resolution to emergency and escalating national situations. I.e. Respective bodies like CHRAG, the Police, the Law Court and other appropriate agencies must be given the full support and charge to determine issues relating to chieftaincy, land. Ethnicity, political differences or conflict. Peace and national security issues must be addressed devoid of emotions and political interest or interference. Politicians and all of us must determine to give the nation her peace of mind!
• Respect for rule of law and adherence to enduring systems and institutions must be prioritized by all levels and enforced by appropriate agencies to forestall indiscipline, crime and corruption and promote inspired leadership. I.e. Crime must be crime without giving it any party colour or personal dimension The media must pick up her role more effectively and work with appropriate agencies to defend the security of the nation without compromising it on the alter of capital
• We should all have a new attitude towards the environment which is our refuge and contribute to keeping it safe and maintain it for the continued benefit of human existence. We should also improve on our justice systems and work to expand good social policies that deals with poverty and illiteracy. Lets us together do something serious about the trouble spots around the country and determine to ensure peace by all means!
Merry Christ and a prosperous new year!
