VICTORY OVER SIN

The path to Life there is but one -
And death to Self and death alone;
The means employed is still the same:
The Cross of Christ of pain and shame.

Man's greatest Foe for sure is Sin
He damns his soul, He is his King;
And carnal man is slave to Him,
Of whom no good doth dwell within.

God's perfect Law he can't obey
Though hard he labours ev'ryday!
For carnal man can't keep such laws
As spiritual and void of flaws.

But let the Flesh be put to death
And let man's spirit rise in birth;
How readily will he obey
And do those things that God will say.

What vic-to-ry and no mean feat
The slave his Master to defeat;
Not pow'r, not might did he apply
But by the strength of God on high.

To vanquish Sin no man succeeds
Save he the Spirit ever leads;
But such must first of God be born
And cloaked with po-wer from the Son.

The born of God, yea, cannot sin -
Whom God's nature doth dwell within;
None overcometh Sin, but he,
He's dead to Self; from Sin he's free.

Now make ye haste unto the Cross -
The Cross of Christ of pain and loss;
For all who gain freedom from Sin
Shall Life Eternal find in Him.
