The tempter is strong, he's old and he's wise
Great foe to all those who believe;
He speaks not the tru-th, the father of lies
Both works he to harm and deceive.

When tried by temptations thou should never fear
Thy strength though be little or small;
God unto His children is ever so near
He surely shall not let thee fall.

There's not a temptation that can overtake
Save such that is common to man;
Faithful is our Lord God, He shall not forsake
He'll give the strength to make thee stand.

Consider it blessed, count it all pure joy
When many temptations assail;
True faith that is perfect must patience employ
Thy crown is hid behind the veil.

By reason of God's word the tempter doth rise
To steal and to snatch, to provoke;
The thorns and the thistles he'll cause to arise
The planting of the Lord to choke.

God's name a strong tower, a fortress, a home
To those who will watch and will pray;
He is their salvation when temptations come
With all who do His voice obey.

Be strong and courageous, stand ye in His might
Be washed in the Blood, free from sin;
Put on the whole armour of God day and night
The tempter to resist and win.

To give thee life is why I came
Great hope and peace, much joy;
The Lord Sabaoth is My great name
Thy foe I will destroy.
