Throughout the endeavors of my days,
I petition His counsel and His assent.
Absent there’s misery and long delays,
Accompanied by anguish and torment.
When I wait upon His fervent favor
All goes well as His plan does unfold.
the fruit of His will, I sweetly savor,
as harmony prevails in waves untold.
Wait on the Lord for His own direction,
your course will become crystalline clear.
Put aside all your own introspection,
on your own understanding ~ do not adhere.
For it is the Lord’s province to guide,
For He’s the author of all good culmination.
His plan is perfect, that can’t be denied,
When we follow it freely without hesitation.

In everything we do in our life, we should first seek the counsel of the Lord. Seeking the Lord’s will for our life is not always easy. We have to search His word to decipher what He has to say about a particular course we wish to embark upon. This should bring clear understanding concerning His desires for our life. However, failing that, scripture then advises that we seek the counsel of our brother or sisters in Christ. Running it past another mature Christian is helpful in a number of ways, first, sometimes just saying “it” out loud puts a whole new spin on things. Second, tapping into the knowledge of another mature believer can afford us more insight than we possess ourselves. In variably for me, my sister disciple knows exactly the right scripture that addresses my dilemma and can clarify the situation for me. Between the two of us we can clearly see the path God desires me to take.

Often we don’t seek the counsel of the Lord because we wish to proceed on our own comprehension. This generally is a keen indicator that we are departing down that wrong path. A lack of willingness to “bounce” a decision or a choice off of another person bears witness to our ambition to satisfy our own will, not the will of God. Otherwise, why would we be reluctant to contemplate what God might have to say upon the subject?

Seek His face in all that you do. What is the worst that can happen?

We will be centered in His will.
