WHEN STRUGGLING WITH
MAKING DECISIONS

This is a writing given as an offering to you, the reader on help with decisionmaking in life. I hope it is a source of assistance as I feel guided by God to write.

In my daily life, I turn to God when making decisions. I am not always completely surrendered to His will as I would like to be. I believe this is a relationship that develops, but, I really try. By being close to God, I believe this will take me to living rightly. It will also bring out my true self, the person He created me to be as well as what I am supposed to do, and, my true purpose in life.

I have doubts sometimes if I am truly in accordance with His will for me. Also, I can become fearful that challenges that I am not prepared to deal with will come about and I may become unwell and fail even though I am following His will. I find though as I am becoming more and more intimate with Him that He does not put forth more than I can handle and when challenges come along, He will be there for me to support me through His presence and any other sources, such as people, that He may bring to help me. So, even if I fail, my value is in Him above all else and if that door is meant to be open, I shall continue through His grace, strength, and, wisdom. If He wills the door to be closed for me, then, another He shall open.

God is good and I am learning to trust in Him more and more each day. Sometimes I fear where He will take me and I have trust issues though I remain faithful because of what He has allowed to happen in my life that is very traumatic. I fear losing self-control with my mental health and suffering alone with Him around coldhearted people who do not care whether I am a person needing help or around those that are so emotionally and mentally ill in an abusive way and estranged from the support of people who care, understand me, and, are connected to God. However, as my relationship deepens with Him, I realize that He will be in me and I will be sustained.

God is good. When I am really not sure about what I am to do in a particular situation, I can take the time to reflect with Him until I have peace about the decision. Using the bible is also helpful and other Christian sources if I need more wisdom, but, for me the final word is what I hear from Him. At times, I find the lack of peace I may be experiencing is based on my fear of taking the step, but, if it is God's will for me to take it, I do it. Other times, the fear I may be feeling and the thoughts associated with the fear mean it is not in God's will for me. It may be something He does not want me to do or not at this specific time, even if I want to face the fear. Here is where I stop, stay in His presence and His unconditional love and continue by detaching from the issue and continue going about my life. This I see as God's loving guidance and discipline. I do not always do this well as I can obsess about wishing the fears were not there and if they were not, then, maybe I could overcome. Again, I need to accept myself in this place, but, be more at peace that God is in control, guiding me and if He wills me to eventually face that fear and go through it and I abide in His time, it shall happen. If not, I must respect, accept, and, not berate myself for not being superhuman or God to handle all things.

There are times I push hard on myself for the answer to whatever matter I am facing that is challenging me, such as financial difficulties and what decisions I need to make, where I am going, pressing to change my wrong thinking, and so on. But, I am learning that I must accept that it is not time to hear and know clearly and peacefully yet. I must be patient. I am doing my best. The key for me here in this place is to be totally surrendered to Him and be connected to Him by listening and communicating with Him. There are times that I am unsure if what I am hearing is the true answer for me as I do not have peace yet. It is not what I want to hear and there is too much uncomfort in me, so, I ask Him to reveal to me if it is truly the answer. He always does. This happens when decisions are made quickly and I am unsure, uncomfortable, and, fearful, and at other times it happens when I am calm and still, but, not feeling the knowing peace. But, it comes. There are times when He gives me the room to make a choice and I know it is in accordance with Him as I hear Him giving me opportunity.

I really find making decisions in my life to be based on a growing relationship with God based on a developing trust and experiencing an intimate relationship with Him. Patience when there needs to be a waiting period for a clear answer of the big picture and moving with Him step by step. He also sends me physical signs of His will and that He is with me.

Making decisions completely surrendered to God's will has and is a process and honestly at times very scary when I feel very vulnerable. I am learning though to trust in Him more and more in my deepest most vulnerable places inside me. He has promised He will never abandon me. This is where the most wounded parts of me become healed as He told me He would. I must remain faithful, patient, accepting of myself in spite of what my biggest critics would say because I need to be firmly grounded in the fact that I am truly doing my best to be the person God created me to be and do what I am here to do.

A suggested prayer from me to you for guidance in decisionmaking:

Father God, I am struggling in making a decision in my life.
It is really weighing on me. I ask You as I really need You
right now for Your guidance in this decision. Father, I
surrender myself to You. I want only Your will for me in this
matter (say the specific issue at hand). Thank You Father.
I love You. Amen.
