"A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret." (Proverbs 11:13)
What is gossip? Idle talk or rumor about the personal affairs of others. Most of us have been guilty of speaking or giving a willing ear to gossip some time in our life. Some people make gossip a lifestyle. Usually gossip is a mechanism that allows the gossip to feel superior to the subject of the gossip in some way. Taking joy in the troubles of others is forbidden by the Lord, and usually indicates a pride problem. A gossip cannot be trusted, and will betray anyone. Everyone is their target. If you know about some problem in the personal affairs of another, keep it a secret and pray for the person. In fact what you do with such information will identify whether you are a gossip or a trustworthy person. You will decide.
