Exciting, thrilling, fun, sneaky, exhilarating, sexy, fulfilling, power, success, good tasting, good looking, arousing, sensual, irresistible, undeniable, alluring, pleasurable, lots of money, sustaining, craving, drive, delightful!
Funny, all these words seem pleasant to the ears, for a moment, but can lead us down a path of destruction. I have a few questions to ask.
Does sex feel good?
Does it feel good to get high on cocaine or marijuana to ease the pain of your world?
Does alcohol help you ease the pain embedded in your soul?
Do fame, success, and power look attractive to you?
Does food taste so good, you feel like you can’t stop?
Does winning that slot or black jack game feel exhilarating?
It feels good to be able to escape the cares and worries of this life, at least temporarily, right?
That’s usually all it takes to get us hooked or so “caught up” we can’t see our lives any other way. The thrill and the “feeling” of sin are very real.
Who was that preacher that said sin is ugly and nasty, and smells bad? Clearly that was a misinterpretation of the scripture because we all know that sex does not “feel” bad. Who tricked us?
It’s known that crack and meth are a few of the most addictive drugs. Many users try them one time and are hooked. Don’t they know that this will lead them to a horrible life or an early grave? The last time I checked, the devil did not jump out in front of me with a red suit and pitch fork.
But I too, have been tricked. The handsome smooth talking guy that seems to smile so sweet and has all the answers, but he only wants to see how much and how far I will compromise. Did he say that to me when he approached me? Did he say I have been sent by Satan to use you up and spit you out? Of course not! If he did, we will never fall for the lies and be deceived.
Remember Eve in the garden? She had everything in the world, but yet she was deceived into eating something she was told not to. In addition, Adam ate
the fruit as well, thus “sin” entered the world. Think about your life.
Romans 5:12 (KJV)
Therefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
How have you been bamboozled into believing the lies from a relationship, a career, a drug, a habit, or even an abuser? If you knew what you know now, would you have taken that first bite? Most of us would say no, but everyday we make the conscious decision to live our lives recklessly as if there are no consequences for our sin.
Let’s see:
• Illicit and promiscuous sex can lead to a sexually transmitted disease, unwanted pregnancy, or even death.
• Drug and alcohol abuse usually ends in an early death, difficulties in relationships, and loneliness.
• Fame, lots of money, success, and power usually lead to the destruction of families, instability, and opens the door up to the previous categories. If greed is involved, it could even lead you to Leavenworth prison.
• Food tastes good, but what happens when you can’t control your eating or don’t eat? Obesity, eating disorders, unhealthy self image, suicide, and health problems can all lead you to an early grave.
• Gambling. The thrill of winning, for the moment? Can you stop? Would you sell your house, your car, your family if you were told you would win the million dollar jackpot the “next” time you played? Would you fall for that bait?
How many of us have already been tricked by the seduction of sin wrapped in beautiful packaging? Was it a pretty lady, or that tall, dark and handsome man? The weed coated with crack cocaine? What about the bottle of alcohol that said on the outside that you will “surely” die? If sin was “packaged” like that, I would not be writing this. I would like to ask question:
When and how have you been “bamboozled?”
Remember: Sin has pleasure for a season, but the end of it, is destruction and death!
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
