The young lad David has now become popular, he had showed a glimpse of the power of the Lord's anointing upon him by slaying the mighty Goliath.

Even though King Saul had started envying David and also started hating him, Saul's son Jonathan loved David as his own soul.

"Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul."

1 Samuel 18:3 (New King James Version)

Envying and hatred will never make us superior than the one's being envied or hated.
They will grow blessedly before the Lord, however we will grow weak by envying and hatred.

The wisest man who ever lived tells us the dreadful consequences of envying...

"A sound heart is life to the body,
But envy is rottenness to the bones. " Proverbs 14:30 (New King James Version)

The Lord wants us to love one another and if anyone is blessed by the Lord, we are to rejoice with them and similarly if anyone is sorrowful, we have to comfort them, however often we find people doing the opposite, in the blessedness of others often we find ourselves envying and in the sorrows of others often we start judging them out of our self righteousness.

I believe what Jonathan did was really a blessed thing, even though he knew that he was the King's son, he humbled himself and chose to honor the anointed of the Lord and which proved to be a great blessing to him and to his descendants (for later when David became King, he took good care of Jonathan's children (2 Samuel 21:7)).

Dear One!!! Acknowledge everything that is good in the sight of the Lord and abhor everything that the Lord hates and the Lord will surely lift you up in His due time to accomplish His great purpose in your life.
