A Dedication

The house is clean now, weary relatives are in from their travels.
The smells of favorite meals and recipes fill the air,
Rarely cooked except for holidays and special occasions.

Laughter, smiles, hugs, stories are traded freely.
Along with some stories come rolled eyes,
And with others rolling on the floor laughing.

The baby, already the center of attention, gets her day.
Sunday dress for all, dedication dress for baby.
“Oohs” and “Ahhs” all around, pictures abound.

The pastor speaks, and the baby upstages,
Family and congregation join in laughter,
And in response to dedicate themselves to raise the child.

The charge is given to all,
All who will make sure they do their best to let baby know
What Jesus did for her on the cross.

Service is over now,
Time for fellowship and for food.
Crowded townhouse, people jostle for seats and space.

A great time is had by all,
But all good things come to an end,
The once bustling scene is quiet except for the sounds of clean-up.

Mom and Dad look at their sleeping, worn out angel and pray,
Lord, please let her know You in her life.
This is our dedication prayer.
