Faith
I have always had a special devotion to Our Lady and when I got her pilgrim statue home last week on the occasion of my birthday, it was the greatest sense of fulfillment to have Our Mother’s presence which surpassed any other celebration I could think of on this day.
I felt like a small child all over again, excited and eager to gaze at the incomparable beauty of our Lady and feel her watchful eyes of protection.
I have been dwelling on the life of Our Lady and trying to draw a parallel between Simeon’s prophecy to her when Jesus was presented at the Temple in Jerusalem that a sword will pierce her heart and the moment at the foot of the Cross when Jesus gave up his spirit and his own heart being pierced by a lance in the presence and to the extreme anguish of his divine Mother.
We read so often that Mary treasured all these things in her heart, the same heart which was Jesus’ first tabernacle on earth.
It was her extreme faith and profound humility to do the will of God that gave her the courage to go through the death and crucifixion of her son Jesus.
She was a silent person, the Immaculate Conception who was ever ready to help others and present in times of need as we see in the Visitation to her cousin Elizabeth, the wedding feast at Cana and the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.
Her earthly journey with Jesus right from the Annunciation when the word was made flesh right up to her constant presence with Jesus as he walked the Way of the Cross , his crucifixion, death and his burial in the tomb with her own gentle hands.
We can look up to her as our model to imitate her virtues in life, to pray for her intercession in all our needs.
Today, she has been raised above the choirs of angels and saints in heaven. She is clothed with the sun and crowned with the stars.
As we celebrate the feast of the Assumption when Mary was taken up to heaven body and soul to be united with her Son in the Heavenly paradise, may we look forward to our own bodies being resurrected on the last day, to enjoy the blissful vision of Jesus along with his Blessed Mother in Heaven.
