God does not play Russian Roulette. He does not play any game of chance for that matter. That is why it is important we take the things of God seriously. What one person may seemingly get away with, may not be the same story for you. Someone may apparently make the same mistake you made and come out smelling of roses whilst in your case, you come out smelling of smoke! I am sure Moses was not smelling of roses after God told him he would not enter the Promised Land as a consequence for hitting the rock instead of speaking to it.

When it comes to obedience, there is no such thing as insignificant disobedience. Many times we seek to do things our own way, in our own time, on our own terms. But, DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHO GOD IS? He is the King of Kings. He is Sovereign. He made YOU! When we fully understand the extent of who He is, we are less likely to play poker with the Almighty! When we know who He is, it is a case of Him saying "jump" and you saying, "how high?". I would not conceive, the President of the United States or the Queen of England or any Head of State in any country for that matter, asking any one of us to do something and us trying to do it our own way or not do it at all! For fear of serious repraisal, most of us who have a brain would simply get on with the task in hand even if we did not want to. If we can have such reverence for earthly authorities, how much more for God?

Beautiful people, God is love. Anything He asks us to do is out of His deep love He has for us. Don't try and talk yourself out of it. Just do it with sincerity of heart and quickly too! There is always a reward for obedience.

In the case of our friend Moses, he did not know the rock he smote was Christ. This means God does not need to even explain His reasons for instructions. The revelation of the Rock only came many hundreds of years later through Paul. But then Moses had paid the price. Beautiful people, as Nike would say, "Just Do It!"

Finally never compare yourself to another person. Our walk with God is very individual. A baby Christian can get away with a lot more than one who is more mature. There are different levels of accountability. Follow Jesus and you will always come out smelling of roses.
