The Vase

I received a Vase from my Daddy
It was exquisite,
Made by a well known Potter,
Only the best clay was used,
The vase was made with love and care,
The pattern was unique,
It was more beautiful than silver,
More costly than gold
It was filled with fragranced oil

Daddy told me to take care of the vase
Because it is rare and very special
I locked it up in my display cabinet
For all to see and admire
From a safe distance
No one touched it,
I feared that it will break.
The fragrance of the oil
Filled the cabinet, it smelled divine.

One day, I could not resist,
Carefully I opened the door of the cabinet,
Only to smell the fragrance again
It won’t do any harm
Just to look and smell
I thought,
I did not consider my shaking hands,
Oh how clumsy of me!
The fragrance is overwhelming, my heart is racing!

Quilt is pounding in my being,
How could I do this!
Just look what happened now!
At me feet in pieces,
My beautiful vase is broken,
Tears of regret is running down my cheeks,
What will Daddy do and say?
He will never trust me again!
Must I hide, must I run, do I admit?

Oh dear, oh dear, the oil is running
Mixing with my tears
Together with the fragrance
Is bitter regret and tears
Daddy, oh Daddy!
Sudden footsteps in the hall,
A knock on my door,
To my knees I fall.
I am so sorry Daddy!

It is okay my child,
Daddy will fix it,
I will fill it with oil again
Let’s pick up the pieces
And clean the mess,
I see your heart, you’re my child,
And I understand, you did not mean to break it,
I will mend it, and it will be perfect again
Daddy still loves you.

Oh thank you Daddy,
You are the best Daddy in the world,
And I love you,
I will be extra careful in the future
And remember the value of the vase
That it is fragile and precious,
I will remember the bitter tears
And the sweet smell of the fragrance,
I will guard it for it is a special gift.
