“Excuse me, sir, but you forgot to state the reason for the rejection,” the angel said, wondering why such a simple prayer would be rejected.
“Tell her that-- if the bank gave her the money for the bigger house she’d have to go to work instead of staying home with her children. She might be upset now, but she’ll thank Me later— next...”
The courier handed God another prayer request. He reviewed it. A moment later His holy voice said, “Rejected!” again.
“But, why?” asked the angel, seeing clearly on the prayer request this man has worked hard to earn the job he was praying for.
“If we give him this job he will be miserable, and he will make his wife and his children miserable too. He must learn patience and spend time with his children while they’re young and need his guidance. Also, his wife needs him more than ever, now. He’ll thank Me later.”
“Okay,” the angel responded, and wrote down the reason for rejection on the prayer request, and placed it on the pile with the others.
“Next…” His holy voice repeated, and reached out to the courier for another prayer request. His eyes scanned the request and he quickly stated, “Rejected!”
“Why are you rejecting this one? Why do you want this baby to die?” The angel asked, shocked by His decision.
“I don’t want him to die. He’ll be waiting here in Heaven and his mother will see him again,” God said assuredly. “She’ll even bare another baby boy that will be born healthy and grow to be a fine man. However, there is a little girl who needs a home right now that she’ll soon find out about. She’ll thank Me later.” He waved to the courier and said, “Next...”
“Accepted!” He said in a joyful tone.
“It’s about time,” said the Angel in training.
God shot him a quick glance of surprise after hearing the sarcasm in his voice.
“Sorry, said the Angel,” and bowed down in submission. “It’s just that I’m quite happy to finally see a prayer that has been accepted. But, I don’t understand, I’ve seen this one before and you had rejected it. Why are you accepting it now?”
“This man has finally learned to be patient. He also remembered to pray in My will, not his. There’s also a younger man who needs to be told about Me at the new job our older member will be starting. The young man is stubborn. I know that he’ll only listen to our advanced member. The young man will be able to relate to him because they share the same past experiences. The experiences that I allowed our older member to go through after I rejected his last prayer request.
“Hmmmm, interesting,” said the angel in training. He marked the request with a bright, yellow stamp and placed it in the “Accepted” pile, and smiled for the new member that was about to join God’s kingdom. He also smiled for the answered prayer of the older member.
God may not be sitting up in Heaven with angels placing acceptance and rejection notices on our prayer requests. Although, I do believe that whatever the outcome of our prayers are, if we pray in God’s will, the answer that we receive must not be questioned.
He is our Father and knows what’s best for us and what we don’t know, we must leave in His hands. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6. (KJV)
This verse has given me peace through many trying times. God has provided an entire book filled with verses like this one to help us when we seek His wisdom and direction. It makes it easier for us to accept the rejections when the come.
