Try this sometime; eat whatever food you'd like at a time you normally don't eat. The next day, do the same thing. About the third day your body will begin to call for food at that exact time of day. You have increased your hunger and it needs to be satiated more often. The same is true with other human conditions.
Scan the country and see how much the Welfare System has helped the poor. Have they been elevated by our government or have they been left hungry, not for food, but for a sense of worth? Have they been given a hand up or taught to hunger for more government programs? Are they on fire to get a job or are they trapped in the hunger pit of free handouts?
Don't stop with the poor; the rich and famous are no different. Their hunger just follows a more affluent agenda. They have everything money can buy from caviar to Porsches yet, when you listen to the news reports, they hunger even more than the poor do. They try and satisfy that gnawing hunger in their souls with things.
They marry and divorce as easily as most of us change our socks. They seek satisfaction in all the wrong places; bars, parties, someone else's bed, corporate board rooms, only to wake in the morning in a deeper state of hunger than before.
Many try to disguise their famished lives by saying, I'm living for the moment, or anything goes, or let's drink and be merry for tomorrow we die. If they only knew they are dying with every waking moment. If they only knew what is going to happen to them if they do die without quenching that hunger with the only thing that can fill to satisfaction.
God placed a hunger inside of us for him. It is mankind's choice to abuse what God wants used for his glory. Instead of seeking God, man chooses to hunger for pornography, lying, stealing, all forms of sexual sin, and even murder. Short and too the point; we hunger for sin!
When hunger is treated as God intended, to bring glory to himself, the sinful desires of the heart are starved into nonexistence. "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." Matthew 5:6 KJV. The only thing that can satisfy these deep inner cravings is the acceptance of Christ as Savior.
Every type of hunger we face Christ experienced. He felt physical hunger and he felt emotional hunger in the deepest way, when He was separated from the Father, and yet he only craved what would glorify God. Christ knows how to channel our hunger no matter what that hunger is.
When we take our hunger for love, money, food, or anything else, and filter it through Christ, glory to God will result. Gluttony, greed, or any other sin will be turned into praises for the Lord. Gorge yourself on the Bible, let your eyes feast on His Word, let your senses revel in his presence. Be greedy for God to walk closer to you than ever before.
The blessings you'll receive will water your drought-ridden soul, "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." John 6:35 Let him take you and satisfy that gnawing deep within your belly. You can trust Him. You can depend on Him. He knows how to satisfy your hunger.
