did you shout or
did you sing the world about?
Did your smile fashion the sun?
Did you design my dreams when that day was done?
Did you sigh and set the stars into the night?
And when you called the dawn did the songbird
take flight?
When you willed the wildflower and the creatures of the deep-
when you poured the winding rivers
where you contemplating
me?
When you raised the Redwoods and charged the mighty mountains to stand
were all your young men champions;
my own sons
valiant soldiers in your plan?
Did your daughters dance across your heart
when you decorated Eden?
Were you tending heaven's garden when you arranged the way they'd grow?
When you planted morning glories
my own daughters
did you know?
When your only Begotten grew in the womb of sweetest Mary
were you then-
even then
with this beloved, son
I carry?
How I love that you're my Father.
I delight in the works of your hands-
Creator of all that's living,
Maker of all that I am.
I dedicate this child to You,
I trust Lord, I believe
as I lay him down on your alter of love
that you'll color his days
and design all his dreams.
